Though I often tell people their technology purchase comes down to lifestyle and personal preference rather than brand, I hope I can at least provide some points to consider before choosing a particular brand or product. The list below reflects what I have chosen based upon my needs and lifestyle. Everyone’s needs are different.
My personal preferences:
- eBook Reader: Amazon Kindle 3 WiFi Only (eInk)
- Tablet OS: iOS (Android just isn’t as polished)
- Phone OS: Android (Lots of utility apps and I really love having my Google ecosystem on my phone)
- Desktop OS: Windows (XP at the moment)
- Browser: Chrome (default), Firefox, and IE (Yes, all three serve their work purpose, and as of 1/19/2012 Firefox is no longer my default as 9.0.1 is crashing when opening PDFs for work.)
- Tablet: iPad (I love 10″ over 7″ and iOS is a more polished experience)
- Home Network: Secured Wireless (WPA2-AES) with 63 character pass-phrase, and Netgear Powerline extenders (secured)
- External Storage: DroboFS (Network Attached Storage) or SATA Connected External Drive
- Laundry: Vinegar and Baking Soda for Towels
- Rechargeable Batteries: Eneloop batteries with the LaCrosse charger
Again, these are just personal preferences and I hope I can make the case as to why they fit my lifestyle so please don’t send me mean emails. I do at times recommend Android and Macs for some things, but they don’t fit my lifestyle. I am happy with my Android phone, but I like iOS on tablets more. For some people a Mac (or even Linux) does what they need but my needs are best met with Windows. It’s a fact.
